CRAIG  DUNK                                                                                                              MOBILE MASSAGE
We are excited to welcome Craig Dunk to the Studio Qi team. Craig joins us as a massage therapist trained in An Mo Tui Na, an oriental form of massage that is highly effective at treating body conditions.
These techniques were developed in China over 5000 years ago to treat a wide range of bodily disorders, by helping to restore the body’s energy (Qi) flow and balance.
A Mo Tui Na is successfully used to aid recovery from musculoskeletal injuries, back & neck pain, sciatica, insomnia, depression, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and many other conditions. While he works on the muscle
groups, he also keeps a focus on the acupuncture points and meridians specific to your treatment. This session is tailored to you and we guarantee that Craig’s expertise will benefit you and your health.

Craig was fortunate to study this modality under renowned body worker and author Jost Sauer at the Australian College of Natural Medicine. Craig holds a Cert IV in Traditional Chinese Medicine Oriental Massage (An Mo Tui Na) from ACNM (www.acnm.edu.au) where he has also successfully completed studies in Chinese Exercise Therapy.

Helena

Will be joining the massage staff in August. Many of you will already know her from her work with us on reception.

She has now completed her Certificate IV in massage at ACNM and will compliment Craig’s remedial style of massage with her own relaxation techniques.

If you’re feeling stressed or want to treat yourself, make an appointment with Helena, you’ll walk away feeling great!

With the addition of Helena to our practitioner staff, we will also be offering a mobile massage service.

This means that you can have all the benefits of a professional massage, from a qualified therapist, in the comfort of your own home.

This service is both convenient and safe.

A mobile treatment will cost just $66 for the month of August.

What

is going on with these hormones?

Moodiness
Irritability
Hot flushes
Painful or irregular periods
Pmt
Depression
Irregular sleeping patterns
Bloating
Fatigue
Panic attacks
Headaches
Migraines
Emotional outbursts
Weight gain
Facial hair
Neck and back tension

These symptoms indicate problems with hormonal balance. Using  Traditional Chinese Medicine, we identify these imbalances and  address the condition at its roots.

The liver processes hormones efficiently when it is healthy. When it is functioning well you will feel creative, dynamic and effective.

You plan well and move into action, feeling healthy and happy.

If your liver is not processing hormones so well, you will become overloaded, leaving your body feeling lethargic, irritable and out of sorts, without knowing why.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has been treating these conditions successfully for over 2000 years.

If you suffer any the above symptoms talk to us about how we can treat hormonal imbalance and get to the underlying condition.

IVF and

         Acupuncture

Many women find it difficult to conceive and elect for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to aid them in falling pregnant. As acupuncturists, it is exciting to see research studies focusing on acupuncture as a support to IVF.

An initial German study found that acupuncture increased the success rate of IVF from 26.3% to 42.5%. Clinical pregnancies were documented in 34 of 80 patients in the acupuncture group, where as only 21 out of 80 patients in the control group fell pregnant.

Adelaide University followed this with a recent media release of their findings; that acupuncture improved pregnancy outcomes for people undergoing IVF treatment. It clearly showed that when their study was combined with findings from three other acupuncture trials, involving a total of just under 800 women,  that pregnancy was twice as likely to occur in the acupuncture group compared to the control group.

It was also found that the benefit of acupuncture use in fertility therapy is not affected by age, meaning all age groups showed the increase in IVF success rates.

Results show that acupuncture is an effective treatment not only for IVF but for many other infertility related conditions. This includes both women and men who have been diagnosed as infertile.

One of the key effects of acupuncture is to increase ovulation, crucial in the conception process. Acupuncture has also been shown to increase the blood circulation to the ovaries and uterus, increasing the capacity for conception.

"What we need to do to allow magic to get hold of us is to banish doubts from our minds. Once doubts are banished anything is possible."

-Carlos Castaneda

If you thought we were healthier than ever,
this may surprise you!

Statistics show:

Obesity affects nearly a fifth of children, triple the prevalence in 1980. Juvenile diabetes is up 104% since 1980. Autism, once regarded as purely genetic, has increased more than 1000 fold in a generation.
Incidence of asthma is up 75%. Almost 1 in 10 children have been diagnosed with ADD. The occurrence of life threatening food allergies have doubled in the past decade.
We at Studio Qi feel that it is time to reverse the trend.

Chinese Clock
The Chinese clock can be used to identify problems with your internal organs. All the 12 organs in Traditional Chinese Medicine have a time of the day when they are at their peak. For example the liver levels are at their highest at 1 am till 3 am. If you have problems with sleep at this time your liver may require a little support. Have fun with the clock and see how you are going. If we have not seen you for a while, it may be time for a maintenance check-up.

What You Need To Know About Diets, Weight Loss, Your Digestive System and Long-Term Health

The information that follows is some of the most important knowledge about metabolism, digestive function and long term health that you may ever read. From our experience it cannot be underestimated. It is not commonly known, but needs to be shared. If you are interested in long-term health this is the best diet plan you will ever receive. You may be surprised how simple it is but we feel that it is time for it to become common knowledge, so as to turn around our future health. We’re going to give it to you, so share it if you like.

Some diets may be beneficial short-term. This is great, especially if you are feeling better for it, but what we are really interested in is your long-term health and a diet plan that is going to keep you well throughout your entire life, without causing any damage, which some short term diets can do.

The greatest advantage to our system is that it has been researched in a different way to any other that we know. Many diets in the past look at food in isolation outside the body. This is interesting, but it is really far more important to look at food in relationship to you and your system. A great example of this may be dairy. We can isolate this outside the body and identify a high calcium value, for example. But if you do not digest dairy well, it is irrelevant the amount of calcium in the product. If you can not digest it, you will not only not benefit from the high calcium content, but actually do yourself harm. We therefore have to look at how food is process by the body. Chinese Diet Theory has the advantage of thousands of years of observing how the body process different foods.

"When a person is sick, the doctor           should first regulate the patient's diet and lifestyle."

              Sun Si-miao— Tang Dynasty

What research tells us about acupuncture and the digestive system!

  • Increases and decreases the motility of the stomach (way food is processed), depending on what you need
  • Increases and decreases gastric acid, depending on what you need
  • Increases the peristalsis of the small intestine
  • Increases the peristalsis of the large intestine
  • Increases immune function

  RECIPE

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we  use the analogy of  fire to describe the digestive system.

Just like any fire, it needs to be supplied with the right fuel. The right fuel changes for each individual seasonally.

This is especially important in the cold winter months, when you should be eating mostly warm, nourishing food. Soups, stews, broths and stir fries make a perfect foundation. These types of foods support healthy digestion.

You may notice that you tend to prefer these types of foods in the colder months. Water should be room temperature or warmer and if you are eating fruit make sure it is well out of the fridge.

Thai chicken curry

To help you through winter we have included a delicious authentic recipe for Thai Chicken Curry, perfect for keeping you nice and warm

200g chicken breast or thigh (or pork,

lamb or beef but chicken tends to give

the best flavour) cut into medium sized

yellow=coolest, green=medium,

red=hot)

200 mL coconut milk

6-7 leaves of fresh basil cut thick and gently to retain flavour

Method:

Put vegetable oil in saucepan on low heat

Turn heat up to medium

Add chicken

When chicken is sealed, add fish sauce and sugar and stir.

More fish sauce can be added later to taste.

Add coconut milk

broccoli go well but whatever you like.

Serve and enjoy!

Life just got faster. The information age has hold and is dragging us towards the future. We’re achieving what was once only a dream. How are we going? How are we holding up? While we are living with unprecedented communication systems, our own unique needs and experiences are often overlooked. Technology has given us the ability of instant contact, but has a deeper sense of connection to others and parts of ourselves been lost?

Taoist philosophy, a process of thought that dates back over 2000 years, centres its focus on our natural environment and how we as individuals and as a collective can live and function within our natural cycles; how we can live in harmony with our environment.

It is then our goal to study and follow what may be seen as our own nature. To allow life to move us effortlessly and deepen these experiences! Life in these moments seems to pursue a natural flow. We jump into the stream of life and ride it with gentle ease, enjoying life’s ebbing tides and unfold its mysteries and gifts. A fluid relationship with life and its challenges, allows us to change and adapt to each and every moment, rather than live out experiences in a reactive manner. How is it that we can support ourselves more fully and completely to unfolding our own unique path?

Some of those that have explored these ideas are Tai Qi practitioners, a group that have delved into our relationship to the natural world. They experience the natural states and forms of movement that our bodies can acquire, mimicking nature’s flow, like that of a river or the flight of a bird. The skilled practitioner then brings forward this newfound information and translates it back into our daily life.

Following and trusting our natural experience can then become a path, a way. We search for an environment that empowers us, a spot that is uniquely ours. Castanade wrote that there is always a place and a direction that is more powerful for each individual. It is therefore important that we, in any given moment find and trust this place, this point of power that exists for each of us.

At times we do follow ourselves, our graceful nature, but there may also be moments that we find life is not so effortless. We feel we are swimming upstream, fighting for every inch, while making little ground, if any.

Our  life does not  flow; its tough and we feel frustrated, exhausted and lost. Though this might be painful, it may also be just as important in understanding and unfolding  your individual life process or myth, that is the experience that has always been in the background of your life. How is it that we can  unfold and explore these experiences more fully?

We may begin by viewing life in a way that acknowledges the importance of our life as a mythical experience and re-orientates our awareness to deepen our experience.

We may choose to observe our daily emotions, to experience our ups and downs. Depression is often felt as a state of disempowerment, a lack of control over life’s situations, or an inability to change present circumstances. While this is true, how is it that we can  gain from these experiences in a way that  benefits us? Could our depression be taking us into deeper parts of ourselves? Parts that are unknown or we avoid or do not wish  to see?

Life flows at times and at others it does not, but what we discover about these experiences can become important if the information can give us new found knowledge and awareness of our experiences.

If we are to find solutions to many of our problems we need the momentary ability to drop our rational mind and allow ourselves the time to explore other parts. Parts of our self that we may not have previously had ready access to, that may contain solutions to challenges that our everyday self cannot reach. The rational mind is important and serves us well but we also need tools to find different solutions to complex problems, new tools necessary to unfold our own situation. Exploring life through the arts and music can deepen our sense of feeling and give access, if allowed, to creative solutions for the self as well as world issues. If we find a problem that is difficult for us to solve, then perhaps it is time to activate a different part of our self that holds a new solution.

If parts of us have been asleep, do they belong to our dreams? Do our dreams at night work on us through the day? Does the mood that is left when first awakening, carry forward, imprinting on our day’s experiences? Can we follow these experiences left from the night? Should we follow these experiences or push in other directions?

If we awaken tired should we force ourselves against our feelings of fatigue?

Do we recognize how it is that we are feeling and give our dreams time to influences us?

It may not be so important whether we follow these experiences or not, but rather become aware of the experiences and how it is that we are feeling. Just the fact of observation may allow for facilitation and change. Science tells us that the act of pure observation changes the result. The observer cannot be taken out of the equation but rather becomes part of the equation.

Do we push or wait? Are we pushing and driving ourselves up stream to a point of complete fatigue, or is the pusher rather an external figure, a social identity hungry for achievement?

In future articles we will continue to ask questions and play with ideas using Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, combined with other ancient and modern health and healing techniques that facilitate the question of how to live a full, healthy and happy life.

Facilitation techniques used in conjunction with acupuncture theory and practice unfold how we can better understand ourselves, and how to follow our natural way. Our own path of heart.

If you are interested in using these techniques of Acufacilitation, the combined use of acupuncture with facilitation, we can set you a time to work more deeply. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine contains tools that allow you to unfold and follow your own individual path.

Let reception know that you read this article and are interested in combining Acupuncture with facilitation techniques.

Good health is made up of many components and we feel that these ideas may stimulate thought to improved health and wellbeing.

We hope you enjoy and benefit from the information provided in this newsletter.

May your dreams continue to work on you!

 Kind regards,

Brad, and all the team at Studio Qi.
